REFLECTION

REFLECTION OF LIGHT:

Reflection of light is the phenomenon of bouncing back of light in the same medium when the light striking the surface.

Take a plane glass sheet whose one side is coated with the thin layer of silver metal. Silver is used because it is the best reflector of light (remember that silver is the best reflector of light). To avoid the removal of the silver metal layer, red paint is coated on it. So when the light falls on the surface it bounces back.
Laws Of Reflection
1) The incident ray, the reflected ray and the normal all lie in the same plane.
2) The angle of incidence is always equal to the angle of reflection.

Special Case:
If the incident ray falls at a right angle on the mirror or we can also say (normal or perpendicular to at 90 degrees) here the angle of incidence os zero degrees.

OBJECT AND IMAGE

An object is the one which we want to see or we can say that an object can either reflect light which incident on it or it can emit its own light. We can see everyone ( objects or persons) all can reflect light which can fall on it. There are two types of images :
1) Real Image: A real image is formed by the intersection of rays of light at a point. This image can be seen if a screen is placed at that point. A real image is formed in front of a mirror
2) Virtual Image: An image that is formed at a point from where the reflected light rays appear to diverge. A virtual image cannot be projected on a screen. That is a virtual image is formed behind a mirror.

Difference Between Real And Virtual Image
                 Real Image                                                                       Virtual Image
1) It is formed by the actual intersection of                          1) It is formed when the reflected ray do
    light ray.                                                                                 not actually meet.
2) It can be projected on a screen.                                         2) It cannot be projected on a screen.
3) It is formed in front of a mirror                                         3) It is formed behind the mirror.

Characteristics of Image formed by Plane Mirror

  1. An image formed is virtual and erect.
  2. The distance of the image is always equal to the distance of the image from the mirror.
  3. object size is equal to the image size.
  4. The image is laterally inverted.
Use of Plane Mirror
  1. It is used in dressing mirrors as looking glass.
  2. It is in the barber's shop.
  3. It is used in periscopes.
  4. It is used in the solar cooker.
